Route 1 Construction Project: The confusing detour

Construction is currently underway to straighten the Route 1 corridor into Alexandria. For the next several months, you will not be able to make a left turn onto Slaters Lane from southbound Route 1.  There is a short detour heading southbound on Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1) to access Powhatan Street onto Slater's Lane.

Detour: Heading south on Route 1 from Crystal City, turn left onto Madison, then left onto Columbus and finally another left on Powhatan until you reach Slaters Lane. From there, you will turn right and go about 100 yards where you'll find Rustico to your left.

Better still, take the GW Parkway if you can and turn directly onto Slaters from there.

From Virginia

Richmond and Points South:
I-95 North to I-395 North. Take exit 10 (GW Parkway South); Travel past Reagan National Airport. Pass exit for Daingerfield Island Washington Sailing Marina. Travel another .5 mile and look for sign on right for Slaters Lane. Take Slaters Lane exit and turn right at the first light onto Slaters. Continue straight on Slaters to the first light at Potomac Greens Drive. Turn your head to the right. That’s us.

Manassas and Points West:
I-66 East to Route 110 South to Route 1 South. Follow Route 1 past Potomac Yards Shopping Complex on left. Pass over Monroe Ave. onto bridge heading to the left. Follow the detour, taking a right onto Fayette Street and a left onto First Street.  Turn left at the light onto Route 1 North; Veer right at the light onto Slaters Lane.  Cross over Powhatan Drive. Turn left onto Potomac Greens Drive. We are on the corner.

Old Town Alexandria:
From King St, take Patrick Street northbound until it turns into Route 1 North.  Veer right at the light onto Slaters Lane (approx. 1 mi).  Continue straight on Slaters to the second light at Potomac Greens Drive. Turn your head to the left. That’s us.

From Maryland

Baltimore and Prince George's County:
I-95 South over Woodrow Wilson Bridge; Route 1 North; Drive through Old Town Alexandria. After you hit King St, you will have another 1.2 miles until you need to turn right onto Slater’s Lane. Turn left onto Potomac Greens Drive. See us? We’re right there.

Frederick & Montgomery Counties:
I-270South/ Washington, DC to I-495 South/ Northern Virginia; GW Parkway South; Travel past Reagan National Airport. Pass exit for Daingerfield Island Washington Sailing Marina. Travel another .5 mile and look for sign on right for Slater’s Lane. Take Slater’s Lane exit and turn right at the first light onto Slater’s. METRO

Braddock Road (Yellow & Blue Line)

Walking from the Braddock Road station:

Head north on West Street to Madison Street.  Turn right onto Madison & go two blocks to Henry Street.  Turn left walking along Route 1.  Cross Route 1 at the McDonald's and go to your left along Route 1, veering off to your right at the bridge construction onto Slaters Lane.  Continue down the hill, crossing Powhatan Street and continuing around the bend.  Rustico is on the northeast corner of the intersection at Slaters Lane and Potomac Greens Drive.

Buses from the Braddock Road station:

The #4 DASH bus towards Fairfax Street stops right in front of the restaurant (www.dashbus.com). 

From DC using the Metro Bus:

Take the 11Y bus from Farragut Square toward Mt. Vernon
